Connor's surfer was a professional Big Wave rider named Garrett McNamara. And in my sister's words, "In the surfing world he's a pretty big deal... in the Autism community, he's a Hero." That day there were no big waves, but he sure rode a lot of waves!
Connor was not sure he wanted to go into the water, and was pretty sure he didn't want to get on that board. But the volunteers were so great, they paddled out with him, talking to him the entire way. And suddenly he was up on a wave, with his surfer. With a mixture of fear, excitement & smiles, his surfer held him on the board all the way in. And for that few moments, he was just like any other boy, riding a wave. Once on the shore he yelled, "I did it!" And that was worth everything to us. Check him out...
